Smart detection for waste containers: a national first in Leeuwarden

The Municipality of Leeuwarden and waste processor Omrin have taken an important step toward smarter and more sustainable waste management. In collaboration with TTC Nederland and using the innovative Binfinity platform, smart waste containers have been introduced in Leeuwarden that contribute to a cleaner living environment.

The containers are equipped with Binfinity Litter Detect, smart sensors that automatically detect when waste has been placed next to a container. As soon as this is detected, the system sends a notification so the waste can be quickly removed. Thanks to this technology, illegal dumping is tackled efficiently, keeping the streets cleaner.

The project in Leeuwarden demonstrates how technological innovation, such as Binfinity Litter Detect, can contribute to sustainability and efficiency in public spaces. By acting quickly and effectively against littering, not only is liveability improved, but waste flow management is also optimized.

With this initiative, Leeuwarden shows how smart technology can be applied in practice to address societal challenges. The project serves as an inspiration for other municipalities in the Netherlands striving for a cleaner and more sustainable city.
